Scriptures from the King James Bible
Joshua 1:8
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
John 17:17
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
This post is inspired by a Charisma magazine article that I received, via e-mail, this week. The article by Pastor Dennis Cramer is titled, "It's Time to Dust Off Your Bible." He mentioned that "Biblical ignorance is on the increase in the church, even to epidemic levels!" Pastor Cramer went on to elaborate about the spiritual dangers of biblical ignorance.
Here is what our Lord further shared with me about the matter:
Knowledge of His Word is vital to DO what it commands. Regular engagement with the Holy Bible is essential nourishment for our spirits. In Psalm 119, "thy word" is mentioned at least 35 times. That, among other Bible indications, clearly shows that regular communion with our Lord, through His Word, is mandatory for spiritual potency and profitability. Psalm 119:11 says, "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."
Some readers here are old enough to remember the Popeye the sailor man cartoon. Popeye was small in stature with muscular forearms. He would eat spinach and gain enormous strength from its digestion. Spinach was the source of his courageous character. Without spinach, Popeye was a mere mortal man.
Our Lord emphasized to me that Popeye was a military man - a sailor. A sailor man with a penchant for a spinach diet. He knew what gave him his edge and he regularly went for it. Spinach was a mainstay on soldier Popeye's menu. The anchor for the sailor man was iron-contained spinach.
I looked up spinach and found that it is high in nutritional value and extremely rich in antioxidants. Spinach is also considered a rich source of iron. Proverbs 27:17 says, "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend."
We are soldiers in the army of GOD. His Word is our spinach. When the Holy Bible is a mainstay on our menus, as we steadfastly purpose to search through and to do it, we are NOT mere mortals, but supernatural vessels in the hands of our Lord fit for our Master's use. GOD'S Word is extremely rich and spiritually high in nutritional value. It is our anchor as we sail the stormy seas of life.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 6:19
Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast,...
Irregular or no engagement with GOD and His Word is akin to beached whales. Such disengagement renders us spiritually unprofitable and weak.
Continued existence "out of the water" results in death. Romans 8:6 says, "For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace."
Let us sail the high seas with an abundance of spinach on the menu from which we faithfully select and digest with keen awareness of its rich properties.

A shout out to Popeye.

SPINACH IS ON THE MENU
ReplyDeleteRICK'S prayer has been added to the menu.
ReplyDeletePLEASE READ this post, "SPINACH IS ON THE MENU"
with a prayer "lead" from Rick that is meaty!
Thank you
Sandra,
ReplyDeleteI agree that ignorance of the Scriptures is a major problem in the body. We err, not knowing the Scriptures Matthew 22:39). We can't walk in truth if we don't know what the truth is. If we are to live victorious Christian lives, our inner man needs a regular diet of the unadulterated Word of God.
Blessings,
Frank
Hi Pastor Frank -
ReplyDeleteYes sir...Amen
You were maybe rushing but the scripture is Matthew 22:29. That is a great scripture to use for this, Pastor Frank.
Thank you...
Wondered where you were going with this one when I read the title - oh, Sandra, how very clever - and SO true!!
ReplyDeletePopeye (and YES, I AM old enough to remember him!) always said, "I yam what yam." It occurs to me that we get our spinach from the One who says, "I AM who I AM!!"
Yum, yum - give me some of that iron-rich Word of God so I won't end up being Wimpy!!
GOD BLESS!
Excellent analogy -- and we need to see all of Matthew 22:29:
ReplyDeleteJesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
Without the scriptures, how can we know the power of God? Without them, we have no faith.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17 KJV)
What a wonderful blessing it is to have the word of God to read, not just to hear another read. Just one reason to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the KJV.

@Sharon
I love what you did with this:
"Popeye (and YES, I AM old enough to remember him!) always said, "I yam what yam." It occurs to me that we get our spinach from the One who says, "I AM who I AM!!"
And the "Wimpy" part made me smile.
@Grammy Blick
I love that you said this:
"...and we need to see all of Matthew 22:29:"
Thank you for adding that so important part of Matthew 22:29. Also, thank you for adding the other scriptures, and your wise words.
Yes, indeed we need the power of GOD with the scriptures. The blood of JESUS and the teachings of the Holy Ghost are so vital also for us to thrive spiritually as we choose to obey the Words of our Lord.
Hahah, Popeye! Good picture to grasp onto. Popeye was so weak when he didn't have his spinach and we too are so spirtually weak when we do not feed on the Word of God.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless you Sandra, great post!

Hi Child of God -
ReplyDeleteYou are so right that we too are so spiritually weak when we do not feed on the Word of God.
God bless you, too, Child of God!
This is great...yes we need more spinach in the body of Christ and that has to start with me first...engagement. Thanks for the encouragement to take the time to read His Word.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog and commenting.
Hi Janette -
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting and commenting.
You are certainly welcome...
We all need encouragement - for sure.
Praise the Lord for how He unites us!
Blessings Sandra... AMEN!!! What an excellent analogy between POPEYE and US in the battle and needing God's Word like Popeye with Spinach! I found that so interesting also about what spinach gives us (though I dislike it, maybe I shouldn't) for I certainly love the scripture you chose on iron sharpening iron from Proverbs! To me, that's what sharing on "blogs" does!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that my life is anchored to Jesus and the Word that gives me life daily ... daily manna... an abundance of LIFE breathed into us by His Spirit made alive to us and in us!
I'm with Sharon, give me more so I don't get Wimpy and never allow me to become a Brutus... "et tu brute" Brutus or Judas? Give us life AND give us liberty in Jesus Christ; the ONLY way, truth and life for us; spirit breathed and spirit filled!
It is a true shame that we are so negligent of the Word as a body of believers. I heard a news commercial here that said most (they give a %) of us are really ignorant of God's Word or about our faith... that is truly sad and people didn't even know what the first book of the Bible is?
That's unbelieveable! Where do they find these people or where are the ones that are in church?
A big shout out to Popeye (and those of us who remember him) and you Lioneagle (my two favorite kingdom animal along with the Lamb)! I survive on the Word of God! Let's "...BE STRONG TO THE FINICH...CUZ WE EAT OUR SPINACH... like Popeye the Sailor man" !!! My strength comes from the Lord and I sure do appreciate those in the Body, who know and study to show themselves approved by God (2 Timothy 2:15)!!! Guess we need many more... Love how you creatively are BOLD as a LION and I love the many features but mostly the header! I sense POWER in these pages and words!
May God continue to prepare a table set with a FEAST before you in the presence of your enemies, as He anoints you richly and your cup overflows!!! (Ps. 23:5-6) Transforming as He fulfills your dreams! Not one can take away God's blessings from you with this kind of understanding and strength building in His Word!
Glory! Hallelujah! Hiding God's Word!
Peggy
Such wonderful nutrition, The Word is. I feel so empty if I can't get my daily portion and that's a good thing.
ReplyDeleteLoving His Word with you today,
Mary

@Peggy
The substance of what you expressed moved me deeply. I am deeply grateful that our Lord used your words to provide confirmation of matters that He has shared with me. Thank you, Peggy, for being a faithful messenger of our Lord! AND THANK YOU, LORD, that You are a PROMISE KEEPER...
@Saleslady371 -
Yes, I agree - "such wonderful nutrition." We need to be filled with our Lord's Spirit AND Word indeed -otherwise we are dead on the VINE.
