Before proceeding further, attribution is to Gina for a post that the Lord led me to on her blog this morning. She has posted names for GOD. As I was doing this post, the Lord reminded that blog brother MTJ had recently posted a piece with names for GOD contained in it. A further reminder came that I commented on MTJ's topic and added a list of some names for GOD in comments there. Note: As I finished up this posting, a reminder came that previously, on this blog, was posted the topic, "NAMES FOR GOD," on August 12, 2010. The list below has more GOD names than that previous listing.

I commented on Gina's blog this a.m. about appreciation that she had posted names for GOD. It was mentioned to her that I had some names that were not included in her posting, and that I considered sharing them on her blog but the listing is lengthy...so she was informed that the names from the listing would be posted on this blog. I invited Gina here to read some of the names for GOD that were not on her post.

I like GOD OF ALL COMFORT. One we use here in DR is Jehova de los Ejércitos, or El Todo Poderoso.

Yes, "GOD OF ALL COMFORT" is immensely comforting. Wow! Jehova de los Ejercitos, or El Todo Poderoso. There is such rhythm in those names in Spanish - though I cannot properly pronounce them. Maybe, the Lord will give me miraculous Spanish speaking abilities one day or maybe I will take lessons - I like the first idea better (laughs).

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite names for God was part of my one-year Bible reading today: "You are the great and powerful God, the LORD OF HEAVEN'S ARMIES." (Jeremiah 29:18b) I LOVE that name because it gives me such courage. Yes, I follow the General, the One who commands the mighty armies of Heaven! Onward Christian soldiers!!
To answer the questions you asked on my blog:

If you go to MTJ's blog - on his sidebar he has a "meme" that he has participated in before called "Sweet P's" (He also explained it in his post dated August 13, 2010) - others I have found include "Word-Filled Wednesday" and "Thankful Thursday" - there are many. Basically, as I understand them, they are recurring themes that one posts on a regular basis, and then others are able to link up and post along the same theme. I don't completely understand how they work - that may be why I haven't yet participated in one yet!!!

Just as an additional thought - a favorite name for God is the one He gave Himself, YHWH (Yahweh) - simply "I AM!"

there have been several, including my former boss, Dick Eastman, who have written entire books on the names of God - good stuff!
